A few things happening, one real soon. This weekend, if you are in Tucson, come see two of my documentaries at the Screening Room.

The Screening Room presents two award-winning films by Kathryn Ferguson

Rita of the Sky and The Unholy Tarahumara
Rita of the Sky is a documentary about Rita, a mysterious woman who was erroneously placed in a Kansas mental hospital because her unrecognized native language was described as “guttural noises” of a mentally ill person. It has screened at the Arizona International Film Festival (Best Documentary, Best of Arizona), Cherokee Nation International Film Festival (Best Documentary), Boston Latino International Film Festival, and LA Femme Film Festival, Los Angeles. Borderlands Theater produced a play about Rita called The Woman Who Fell from the Sky. The play just completed its 250th world presentation in Mexico City.

The Unholy Tarahumara is a gorgeous non-traditional documentary about two Tarahumara families. If you want to know about the Sierra Madre and gain an unseen intimate view of Tarahumara life, this film is a must-see. It screened in 13 film festivals in the U.S. and Europe.

Saturday, March 6, at 7:00 PM The Unholy Tarahumara (57 minutes)

8:15 PM Rita of the Sky (74 minutes)

Sunday, March 7, at 2:00 PM Rita of the Sky, followed by a lively panel discussion about creating a play versus a documentary about Rita with Kathryn Ferguson, Barclay Goldsmith (executive director Borderlands Theater), and Mike Wilson ( Tohono O’odham community activist).

Cost: $5.00 per film

Dancewise, at 9:00 AM on Saturdays, Bonnie teaches a fabulous stretch-and-tone class which strengthens the core and gives us great balance. Classes are $25 for four classes, or $10 drop-in. Come try it!

And the book is published! “Crossing with the Virgin: Stories from the Migrant Trail” is officially released April 18, Sunday afternoon, at the “Book Release” party at Old Town Artisans. However, I have a few copies ready to sell. Check out the “book” section of this site.

And hooray! We are off and running. We have our first book signing in Albuquerque, NM, at Bookworks bookstore. Come see us there Sunday, March 21. For more details, click “Book” page for this site.
